Delivering to Apartment Buildings

Occasionally, you’ll claim for delivery to an apartment building. Here are some suggestions to help you get ready for these deliveries:

  • You may need to deliver groceries to a member who lives a few floors up in a building that doesn’t have an elevator.
    • Be prepared to walk up a few flights of stairs if necessary.
    • If an apartment order is going to require multiple trips to deliver and is a drop-off order, you may choose to let the member know you are starting to drop off items so they can be aware of items that are outside their door throughout the process.
  • For buildings with doormen and/or buzzers, remember to pay close attention to delivery notes and stay in contact with the member.
    • These buildings may require that you use the service entrance when delivering.
    • You may choose to be courteous to all building staff as you may begin to deliver to the residence on a regular basis.
    • It is important to maintain communication with the member when delivering, as they might not be aware of the extra steps required to deliver to their home.
  • Many residences with doormen require you to leave your items on the ground floor.
    • It’s a great idea to prepare for these circumstances by labeling the member’s bags with the following information:
    • Member's information (e.g. name, apartment number)
    • Number of bags delivered (e.g. 1 of 4)
    • Item categories (e.g. cold, frozen, dry goods)
